Ochre Contemporary is a contemporary fine art gallery located in Mossel Bay on South Africa’s Garden Route.
The gallery takes its name from ochre, one of humanity’s earliest known pigments. For thousands of years, ochre has been used by people to create, communicate and leave their mark on the world. It is a symbol of our enduring desire to tell stories, express ideas and connect through creativity.
Mossel Bay is home to one of the world’s most significant archaeological heritage sites, where evidence of early humans using ochre has helped shape our understanding of the origins of art and symbolic thought. Inspired by this remarkable connection to our shared creative history, Ochre Contemporary seeks to honour the past while championing the artists of today.
The gallery presents a dynamic programme of curated exhibitions featuring established and emerging contemporary artists from the Garden Route and beyond. Through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking and mixed media, we showcase work that is thoughtful, engaging and relevant to contemporary life.
At its heart, Ochre Contemporary is a space for discovery, conversation and connection. We believe that art has the power to challenge, inspire and bring people together, creating meaningful dialogue between artists, collectors and the wider community.
Rooted in history and driven by contemporary vision, Ochre Contemporary celebrates both the origins of human creativity and the exciting possibilities of contemporary art.
